A contributing factor to this misconception is both Dari and Farsi have alternative names of both Persian and Parsi. Also, although Dari is the local name in Afghanistan for Eastern Persian, most Afghans who reside in Afghanistan refer to it as Farsi, like their Iranian counterparts.
